This does not include the Lisa Jones Memorial Post-Secondary Scholarship. If there is more than one family member with SB, each individual may apply for up to $500 in assistance and scholarships.  When the applicant is making his or her first application to SBIND for funds, a letter from a physician confirming that the patient has Spina Bifida is required. (Assistance is subject to review and available SBIND funds.)

Lisa Jones Memorial Scholarship

Post-Secondary Education

All applications must be received by May 15, 2021

Lisa Jones was a tireless advocate for the Spina Bifida community.  Born with the birth defect herself, she never let her disabilities limit what she set out to do.  She attended Camp Riley as a youngster and went on to go to college and lead a joyous, productive life.  She was passionate about the Spina Bifida Association of Indiana (now Spina Bifida Indiana) and the Spina Bifida Association of America (SBAA) and encouraged others to support their programs.

With her death in 2016 at age 43, her family (The Jones/Pepiot families) have worked in cooperation with Spina Bifida Indiana (SBIND) to create a memorial fund in her honor.  This special fund supports the annual Lisa Jones Memorial Scholarships.  A $2,000 Post-Secondary Education scholarship will be awarded each year.

The $2,000 Post-Secondary Education Scholarship will be given to an Indiana student with Spina Bifida who has shown determination, perseverance, and seeks independence.  The applicant must be enrolled or is enrolling in an accredited college, university, junior college, approved trade, vocational, or business school to further his/her education in a career of their choice.

All applicants need to complete the official application form, provide a letter of recommendation from a school official (administrator, teacher and/or coach), church/community leader and/or employer, and type a one-page double spaced essay.  A copy of the most recent transcript is also required.  Applicants can reapply each year they are enrolled in an accredited college, university, junior college, approved trade, vocations, or business school.

Applications are due May 15, 2021 and the education scholarship winner will be notified by May 31, 2021.  The funds will be sent directly to the Bursarā€™s office of the chosen school.
