Lisa Jones Memorial Scholarships

Post-Secondary Education and Camp Riley

All applications must be received by April 30, 2019.

Lisa Jones was a tireless advocate for the Spina Bifida Community.  Born with the birth defect herself, she never let her disabilities limit what she set out to do.  She attended Camp Riley as a youngster and went on to go to college and lead a joyous, productive life.  She was passionate about the Spina Bifida Association of Indiana (SBAIN) and the Spina Bifida Association of America (SBAA) and encouraged others to support its programs.

With her death in 2016 at age 41, her family (The Jones/Pepiot families) have worked in cooperation with the Spina Bifida Association of Indiana (SBAIN) to create a memorial fund in her honor.  This special fund supports the annual Lisa Jones Memorial Scholarships.  The special fund is made possible by donations received by SBAIN specifically for the Lisa Jones Memorial Post-Secondary Education Scholarship Fund and Camp Riley Scholarship Fund in her honor.  This year’s Scholarship amount will be $1,000 for Post-Secondary Education Scholarship and two $500 Scholarships for Camp Riley.

Post-Secondary Scholarship Award

The purpose of this $1,000 award is to recognize an Indiana high school senior with Spina Bifida who has shown determination, perseverance, and seeks independence.  The applicant must be enrolled or is enrolling in an accredited college, university, junior college, approved trade, vocational, or business school to further his/her education in a career of their choice.

All applicants need to complete the official application form, provide two letters of recommendation from a school official (administrator. Teacher and/or coach), church/community leader and/or employer, and type a one page double spaced essay.  A copy of the most recent transcript is also required.

Applications are due April 30, 2019 and the education scholarship winner will be notified by May 31, 2019.  The funds will be sent directly to the Bursar’s office of the chosen school.
